The Weekend is Over!

I love Mondays! Everyone is back in school or back at work and it is so quiet here in my house!
Thursday night and the 200 lemon bars went well! Here are a few photos I took right before we started cleaning up:
We were told to prepare for 200-250 people. I would bet there were only 100 people that showed up! So, we had a lot of food left over! We put much of the leftovers in the freezer to save for teacher appreciation week. We figured we'd just set them out in the media center one day and let the teachers know they can stop in for a little treat!

Friday morning daughter had dress rehearsal for her evening ballet performance. There was no flash photography allowed that evening, so I try to get as many pictures during rehearsal that I can.

Receiving final instructions from the teacher.

Finally, it's over!
The girls did a beautiful job! My daughter was in three of the dances. Unfortunately, I have only pictures of the one dance from rehearsal. I had dropped her off and went home to get some things ready for our guests that were coming in to town and missed her in the other two dances. I really loved the costume for the part she danced in Coppelia. But didn't get a picture. Oh well! We did purchase the dvd that they have made of the whole performance, maybe I can capture some still shots off of it!
Saturday night I had a great time at Pokeno. I won a few times and came home with some great prizes!
This week should be a little less stressful than the last! I'm looking forward to getting a few things done around the house and getting ready for mine and hubby's getaway this weekend, more to come on that later!

I've Been Tagged!

It's been a while since anyone has tagged me, and that is okay, but sometimes a tag is a great way to write a post when you can't think of much else to say!

Nutshellberry, who is a new blogging friend and one that lives in my part of the world tagged me!

So here it goes:

1. What is your current obsession? cleaning out the clutter in my home

2. Which item of clothing do you wear most often? capris

3. What is for dinner? It's only 9:00 am, so I am not really sure yet.

4. What are you listening to? Regis and Kelly on the television

5. Say something to the one that tagged you. Hey you! So glad I found your blog, I enjoy reading someone else's take on life here in the lowcountry!

6. Favorite vacation spots. Treasure Cay, Bahamas. Love long weekends in NYC!

7. What I'm reading right now. The Help by Kathryn Stockett, it's very good!

8. Four words to describe myself. Creative, opinionated, tough, observant.

9. Guilty pleasure. Firefly vodka!

10. First spring thing? Eating outdoors!

11. What do you look forward to? Spending a lot of time at the lake this summer.
I'm supposed to tag some others. If you are one of my followers, I tag YOU!

The Smell of Lemons is Actually Starting to Make Me Sick!

Thanks for the compliments on the lemon bars! I don't know that I want to see another for a looooooong time!
Yes, they are tricky to cut, but I found that they are a little easier if I line my pan with aluminum foil and then lift them out to cut. Plus I use a REALLY sharp knife.
The lemon bars are for a dessert reception tonight at daughter's school. Apparently we are hosting a district PTSA awards event and we love to show off our hospitality skills! The reception is from 6:30-7:00 and we are doing it outside in the gazebo and there will be some of the strings students playing while everyone enjoys some punch and sweets. I was in charge of the lemon bars and we have four other desserts too. Now I have to get them all plated on my silver platters!
Tomorrow night is daughter's dance performance with the ballet school that she dances with in our town. So all day tomorrow I will be at dress rehearsal with her. My mom, SIL, and MIL and FIL are coming from out of town. Mom and SIL will be staying with us. In-laws got a hotel room. So I have tons of cleaning and getting ready for guests to do!
I am really looking forward to my Pokeno night on Saturday!

Honey!

I LOVE honey! One of the girls that works for my husband went to visit her mother in NC and her mother's neighbors are bee keepers! She brought back some honey for us. One jar is just honey and the other is honey and the comb! Hubby won't eat it because he thinks she is trying to poison him! Well, I don't think it is working because I have already eaten some and I am still here!

PS I am taking Nutshell Berry's suggestion and I am going to surprise my kids with a belated Easter egg hunt here in the house one day after school! It really works out kind of nice too, I got a lot of candy to fill the plastic eggs at a really good price since Easter is already over!

It's Hopeless!

I have been trying to get caught up on reading the blogs that I follow and it seems like it will never happen! I keep thinking maybe I'll just mark them as all read, but I'm afraid I'll miss some important announcement or something! UGH!
I've been thinking about Easter... both of the children said they didn't want to hunt for eggs this year. I figured, okay, they are 12 and 14! Egg hunts are out! But, after the low-key looking at their easter baskets and then that was it, I looked at them and said "did you miss hunting for eggs?" Both have decided that we should hunt for eggs, in the house of course, next year! I'm so excited, if the jelly beans would keep I'd be filling the eggs right now! ;)
Glad it's Friday! Daughter has had a cold this week and I'm hoping we are on the downside now! I'm thinking dinner and a movie would be fun tonight!
Have a great weekend everyone!

President, Plants and Cakes!

We headed to the lake on Wednesday. Had a great time! Relaxed, visited with friends and was elected the new President of the home owners association! There are only 17 homes in our neighborhood and being the pres. is no big deal, but no one ever wants to do it! A few of the board members and I met the night before the meeting and planned our "strategy"! We were trying to get one of the male board members to step down and make it an all female board, we think we can do it better and with less drama than the guys! He didn't step down, I think it's a power thing for him. Anyway, I agreed to be president and we'll see how that goes! I'm actually a lot tougher than people think I am!

We came home on Saturday afternoon. As I was walking through the back yard I saw something fall to the ground... it was this, the last of my camellia blossoms! Isn't it pretty?

Monday was my birthday, and even though I am kind of over the celebrating of birthdays, the kids still think I should have a cake. They picked this one out for me at Marble Slab. If I'm not mistaken, it looks like the same one they got for me last year! I think this might be someone's favorite! ;)

An Afternoon of Shopping

Daughter and I had our shopping trip today. She found a dress for Easter and a few things for school. We also had to go ahead and get her first bathing suit of the season! I figured we would be at the lake the end of this next week and she and her friends will probably want to run around in their suits if the weather is warm! Hubby is so funny, he doesn't understand why she needs so "many" swim suits and not just have one for the lake and one for the house! Men!
I found a pair of sandals while I was in Target. I normally don't buy cheap shoes, but these were just adorable. They have some new ones by Miss Trish of Capri, especially for Target, and there was only one pair left in my gargantuan size! So, even though I am not sure I really like them, I decided to go ahead and get them and take them back if I change my mind. Now, I just have to find something cute to wear with them!

Rainy Days and Sushi

It rained ALL day yesterday! We needed it, but it was that kind of day where you just don't even want to leave the house!
Needed to get some groceries, but didn't want to venture out in the mess! So, I was trying to scrounge up something to cook for dinner when fabulous hubby called and suggested going out to eat! Yea!
We tried a new Japanese Steak House that opened recently in our town called Wasabi. It was good. I ended up just getting sushi and enjoyed every bite! I swear, I still feel stuffed this morning!
Busy weekend, daughter has dance rehearsal tomorrow and son is going to an overnight paintball event. I promised daughter that we would go shopping Sunday afternoon. She and I still don't have anything new for Easter! It will be a test of wills with daughter. She has her own style and it is not at all like mine! No more Lilly Pulitzer for her! :( Wish me luck!

Pink and Green Goodness!

Aren't these the cutest? While I was out this morning I saw little individual bags of reeses peanut butter cups in all different colors. I scooped up a couple in pink and green. Though, really in person the pink looks more purple to me.
