I Think I Need to Wear My Glasses

Sunday afternoon was the family picnic for the group that my son is going with to Australia. We were all to bring a picnic lunch and would take care of last minute business and enjoy the afternoon.I made a Broccoli Salad and some brownies and decided to stop by Publix for some fried chicken and our drinks. I grabbed a 1/2 gallon of lemonade and then saw that they had some Orange Pomegranite Tea, so I grabbed a 1/2 gallon of it also. While I was standing in line to check out I looked at the nutrition label and saw that the tea had only 10 calories per serving and thought that was fantastic! I drank two cups while at the picnic and since there was soooo much for everyone to to drink I brought what was left back home. That evening I drank some more and finished it off yesterday. I thought it was really good and at just 10 calories per glass it was a great find! After I poured the last of it into my tumbler I started looking around on the label for something that indicated it was artificially sweetened. I couldn't find anything, so I went to get my glasses to read what was listed on the ingredient list. Imagine my surprise when I could then CLEARLY see the calorie count listed as 80 calories per serving!!! Oh My! It was not artificially sweetened, it was loaded with sugar! I'm going to have to ramp up the exercise this week!

10 more days of school!

School is out in 10 days! I am so ready for this school year to be OVER!
One month from today and teenage son leaves for Australia. He'll be gone for three weeks. I still have a lot to do to get him ready for his trip.
While he is gone I am hoping to make a little getaway to a friend's house in the Bahamas. I really feel like a week away would do wonders for me!

I am also trying to make arrangements for teenage daughter to spend two weeks with a friend in Niantic CT. I was trying to arrange flights and since she will be traveling alone there is only one airport she can leave from down here and it is 3 hours away! I couldn't believe the cost to fly from Charlotte to Hartford or Providence... $500 and then an additional $100 each way since she is an unaccompanied minor! I started playing around and found that she could fly into Laguardia for $178 round trip. Big difference! Friend's family said they would be willing to drive down to pick her up and take her back to NY for her return flight! So, I think that will solve our dilemma.

I was supposed to meet a friend for lunch today, but she called and said her daughter called her late last night(the daughter is in college and was gone for the month) and she had received a phone call that her apartment was flooding! Apparently some plumbing broke and she was out of town, so they don't know how long the water was leaking but it has made a pretty good mess! Daughter is meeting her and they are going to assess the damage and clean up.
Don't have much planned for the weekend, maybe some grilling and chilling! :)
Have a good one!

Things are starting to slow down
I am looking at my calendar and it looks like things are starting to slow down!
This past week I was busy chairing the teacher appreciation luncheon at daughter's middle school. We had it on Wednesday, which was Cinco De Mayo, so we had a natural theme. We served Chicken Tortilla Casserole, Mexican Layered Salad, Limeade and assorted desserts. Of course there were a few bumps, which there always seems to be! But, there was nothing I couldn't handle and the teachers were so thankful! One thing we are always sure to do is line up volunteers to monitor lunches so that the teachers have a duty-free lunch and can enjoy themselves. They were very appreciative!
After the teacher lunch I felt like I could just crash, but I had promised a friend that I would help her bake 300 cookies for a cottage tour that is being held on Mother's Day in our town to benefit Habitat for Humanity. So Thursday was spent making cookies!
Today husband and I were going to make a trip to Myrtle Beach to see his mom. She has a membership to Brookgreen Gardens and wanted to take us as her guests. It is lovely this time of year and I was excited to see all the flowers in bloom. But, alas, that didn't happen for me! Husband went and I get to stay home and supervise son who is grounded this weekend! Oh, teenage boys! I just hope we make it through the next few years!
Happy Mother's Day to all my friends who are mothers! And to those who aren't, I hope you get to spend the day with your moms!

Still not caught up!

Well, it's been over a week since daughter's performance. Here are a few of the photos I took during dress rehearsal. They did an outstanding job.
BIL even showed up and attended with us! Of course, I stood my ground and did not go all out for his "maybe" visit, and when he was looking for coffee the next morning I directed him to the nearest McDonalds! It was hard for me to do and so out of character to not treat him like he just checked in to a luxurious bed and breakfast.
