He's All Moved In!

Monday through Wednesday last week was filled with lots of last minute runs to the store for things that I had forgotten to get for college boy! actually, I worked on Monday and then started all the last minute running!
Thursday of course greeted us with lovely rain! I packed my car to the gills with all of his stuff and the things that didn't fit and the love seat, his bed, trunk and desk chair was waiting in a pile for his dad to load onto one of his work trucks.
We took off for the upstate around 3:00 and made it to our little house in the hills by 7:00, traffic was not too bad and the rain stopped once we got through Columbia. We ate a quick dinner at the clubhouse in the neighborhood and then went to settle in for the night. Husband didn't arrive until almost 1:00 am! He didn't leave work until late, had to still drive home to load the truck and since it was pouring, he had to wrap all the things he put in the back of the truck!
We were up early Friday morning to go move in!

 I drove college boy to the clubhouse at the complex to check in and get his keys, while husband headed straight for his building. He was the first of the four roommates to start moving in. We weren't there for very long before one of his roommates and his family showed up. He seemed like a nice kid and he had very nice parents. 

 Every person has their own room and bathroom! I kept telling son how lucky he was since when I was a freshman in college I lived in a room about the size of his with another person and our bathroom was down the hall!

Honestly, their condo is nicer than any place his dad and I lived the first five years of our marriage! This is the housing for the 700 freshman that are in the program that he is in! I won't even tell you about the pool and the other amenities! :)
After he was done unpacking we hurriedly left to go get lunch. His roommate that is from our hometown and our neighborhood had not arrived yet, and I really didn't want to have to see his mom. I have some issues with her and I promised son that I would not have a confrontation with her.
We ate lunch at Brioso Pasta  downtown. It is soooo good! I had the smoked salmon panini, which is just out of this world! Their flat bread pizzas are really good too.
After lunch we headed to my parent's house. We made a quick stop at that big, cheap store that shall remain nameless and picked up a few things for the condo that the roomies needed. We visited with my parents and the teens played with the cat! Mom made dinner for us and husband, who had left as soon as the truck was unpacked so he could go visit some clients, met us there. After we ate we took son back to the condo and dropped him off. Husband wanted to go upstairs to see his room all set up, so we all went up and I set out some of the things I had bought for them. 
The next morning after the three of us got ready we headed back into Clemson. Husband wanted to go by to see if son wanted to go grab some lunch with us. He had to wake him up and then we headed to Mac's, an institution in Clemson and no visit would be complete without eating there!

Seems like our son is fitting right in in college. When I asked him what he did after we dropped him off, he said he went to a party. And of course there was lots of beer there! He wasn't feeling too good when we saw him! We finally said our final goodbyes when we dropped him back off. He let us know that he didn't need us to come by before we left for home on Sunday!
We then drove to hometown to visit with some dear friends, whom we just found out had gotten a baby on Monday! They have been married for 19 years and the stars finally aligned for them!  He is so precious! I sat and held him for over an hour, and I am not a baby holder!

We are just ecstatic for them! Even though they are 49 and 46 years old (I would die! ) 
So now we are almost childless. Daughter leaves in two weeks. It is going to be very quiet around here then! We are scurrying around getting all the last minute stuff together for her trip. With all the free time I will have after she is gone, I may start blogging EVERYDAY!

A Lot Has Been Done

Busy week as usual these days! Monday daughter had to be at the high school to take two final exams for the classes she took online this summer. She ended up with an 88 and a 94 for her final grades. She is pleased, though a little unhappy about the 88!

That afternoon son had to re-take a math placement test that he took back in June. His score the first time was terrible, so he was only able to sign up for a remedial math course in college! So, we got him an online refresher course to do to get him ready to retake the test. We paid $40 for him to take the test in a remote location that could send the results to his school. Wouldn't you know that AFTER he finished they realized they gave him the wrong test. He had to go back the next day to retake it AGAIN! But, this time he scored well enough to get into the math class he really wanted. That night, before his scores had been received by his school he looked at the course he wanted to take and it was still open. Of course when he went online to sign up for it the next morning it was closed! UGH! So he put his name on the waitlist and hoped he could get in. 

Tuesday night I hosted book club at my house. We read Bad Monkey by Carl Hiassen. It was a great book, as all of his are! I grilled some shrimp, made a crab and artichoke dip and put out some hummus along with wine and beer. I made homemade Key Lime Pie for our dessert. Next month's book is Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple. I just read it and it is a great, fun read!

Wednesday son had an appointment downtown, so we went there and then headed over to Mt. Pleasant to hit up Whole Foods and Trader Joes. I needed a few things for the Bon Voyage party we were having for daughter on Saturday.

Wednesday night we headed back over to Mt. P and met my sister and BIL and their two boys for dinner at Vickery's on Shem Creek. They had been staying the week at Wild Dunes. We had a great time, but dang those tourists are still out everywhere! 

I had to work from 9:30-5:30 on Thursday. That was a long day!

I finally got my car back from the service shop at the dealership! It had been there since July 15th! I had a loaner, so it wasn't too bad, but man could they have taken any longer? I put over 1,000 miles on their car!
Saturday we had a drop-in Bon Voyage party for daughter. Lots of family and friends showed up!

After everyone left we decided to head over to Red's Ice House on Shem Creek. It was packed but we sat outside and watched the dolphins and kayakers  while we waited for our table. 

I work this afternoon and then the rest of the week will be spent gathering last minute things for son and packing him up for the trip up on Thursday!

2 Weeks

It's hard to believe that in two weeks we will be moving our first born to college!

It seems like this just happened:

 How did he grow up so fast? It is so true: the days are long but the years are short!

We have a few more things to buy for his room and I must remember to send the check for his first semester tuition next week.

Today, daughter's VISA came! So, it won't be much longer now before I fly with her to NYC before she departs for France. 

I am starting to understand why so many mother's feel a little lost after the kids leave the nest... I have been consumed with paperwork and appointments/orientations etc getting these two ready for the next chapters in their lives. Once daughter is gone I won't know how to act without looking at my list of things to do for the day! At least I started my small part time job at Middleton Place which will give me a little something to occupy my time. And, I can finally focus on myself, which I have neglected to do for the past 18 years! I know that's my fault, I could have made time for me, but I just felt major guilt putting myself first!
