When I am Bored I Think of Food

This is my go-to lunch now, Sauteed Kale with onions, avocado and hummus on a flour tortilla. I love it, but don't love the smell that is left in the house from the sauteed Kale!
I love when the M&Ms come out in the colors for the holiday/season! Thankfully I don't like peanut m&ms, so these won't be tempting at all!
Today is warm but very little humidity, so I am enjoying my back deck. We may just have to have dinner outdoors tonight!

Weekend Wrap Up

Teen daughter and I headed to the lake house on Thursday. Husband and teen son would drive up after work, it's only about a 45 minute drive on the interstate.
I was so happy to be there! It was pretty quiet on Thursday, not many neighbors around. Friday people started dribbling in and by Saturday the place was hopping!
I was able to visit with one of my neighbors that I hadn't seen since New Year's Eve! We had a great time catching up. Then one of my other neighbors popped in and we figured out that we hadn't seen each other since early fall or late summer!
I had taken a cabinet up last fall to go in the corner of the dinning area. It is slowly coming together. It needed to be painted and it needs some new knobs for the doors at the bottom. It had been so long since we had been there I had forgotten about the knobs, so it is still without! I took some of my McCoy pottery pieces up to see how they would look displayed in it. I think I like it and need to gather up the rest.
My hydrangeas were blooming pretty well. I had seen on a blog somewhere where they used a straw bag to display  flowers. I remembered I had one of those bags in the closet here at home, so I grabbed it and took it with me. I snipped some hydrangeas and filled a jar with water. Stuck it all in the bag and tied it to one of the french doors that we don't use. I like the way it turned out!
In the latest edition of Martha Stewart Living I saw a recipe for Coconut Cake with Berries and Cream. I had lots of berries and thought it would be a great dessert. Oh my gosh, it is delicious!
We decided to come home late on Saturday night since we had been away last weekend and missed church. So Sunday ended up being pretty low key... church, family lunch, then everyone went their separate ways for the afternoon.
So now it's Monday and I have a lot on my to do list this week! I'd better get going if I want to get anything accomplished!

My Kind of Weekend

So we headed up to the mountain house on Friday around noon. Husband had a job to do in Spartanburg, so he drove there and then met us at the house later on Friday afternoon.
To help appease the teens, husband bought a tv and dvd player so they could at least watch movies. We still don't have cable or satellite!
Saturday morning they all decided to go hiking. I thought they would just be gone for a little while. Six hours later they returned! While they were gone I went for a walk and caught up on Season 1 of Downton Abbey, yes I am really late to that party!
I had called my sister and her husband on our way up and invited them to come see the place and have dinner with us on Saturday night. We had a good visit but I learned that my kitchen is lacking in a lot of utensils and equipment that I still need to buy.
Found this photo of daughter on the camera... I have no idea what she is doing, besides laying in the street in front of the house!
These were taken while they were on their hike:

I would have liked to have gone, but I know that was the best Fther's Day present for husband, to go hiking with his kids and leave the complaining wife at home! ;) He has been wanting to go since we bought the place and I finally printed off some of the directions. We grew up very near to here, but after awhile you start to forget where things are and some of these places we had never been.
Father's day was kind of strange.... husband got up early and drove all the way to Myrtle Beach to take his dad out for lunch, that was a 5 1/2 hour drive one way from the mountain place! Then he drove home which was a 2 hour drive. I would have liked for him to be home with his kids so they could do something for him, but he feels like he has to be with his father every father's day and his mother on Mother's day. Oh well, at least I wasn't expected to be there too! Four hours is my limit in the car!
Tonight husband and teen daughter went to a concert at the water front park not far from our home. Teen son didn't want to go, and since he is grounded, I got to stay home to supervise him! The weather is great for doing something outside tonight.
Tomorrow night I have book club. I finished reading Dreams of Joy by Lisa See. I really enjoyed it and can't wait to get together to discuss and have  a glass or two of wine! :)
We are heading to our house at the lake on Thursday, since we haven't been there in about 3 months! I've heard from the neighbors that the hydrangeas are blooming like crazy, I wonder if anyone has been pilfering them!?
Gosh, I can't believe that June is already half over! At this rate school will be starting in no time!

Everyone's Having a Good Time!

I got some photos of daughter and her cousin at South Beach. I think they are having a great time together!

On the sidewalk in front of cousin's house. Daughter loves it because they can walk or take the bus wherever they want to go!

I had a great time at my BFF from college's farm!
Here is her Mastiff and little black kitty out in the yard.

The view from the porch

Another view:
I had the best time just relaxing, and talking and soaking up the quiet!
The temps were actually in the upper 60's! I felt like I needed to wrap in a blanket while we sat on the porch.
My friend does a lot for her older relatives and friends and once a month they all gather to celebrate the birthdays for the month. Well, it just so happened that the birthday club breakfast was the first morning I was there! I got to attend and meet all these wonderful ladies that I had heard so much about! I think the youngest one of the group was 90, besides my friend! I actually sat beside a lady that was 100 years old, across from her was a 96 year old and beside her was a lady that was 101! The 100 and 101 year old drive themselves! I had the best time!
Before I knew it, it was time to come back home! I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
Daughter comes home tomorrow. I have to drive to Myrtle Beach to pick her up.
Son takes the ACT on Saturday.
I have my Pokeno group Saturday night.
I had hoped we might get away to the lake, but looks like we have a pretty busy weekend!
Maybe next weekend...

What Have You Been Up To?

I have been reading this book because the sequel to it, Dreams of Joy is my book club read for this month and I had not read the first one yet. So far, so good!

Teen daughter decided she wanted to go to Miami to her cousin's high school graduation this Wednesday. So Thursday night I got online and found a great cheap ticket to Miami from Myrtle Beach. My in laws live there, so we drove up Saturday night, and spent the night so she could catch the 8:00am flight to Ft. Lauderdale. If you remember her flight to LaGuardia two summers ago, this one went much better!

In honor of National Doughnut Day, we met up with the Diggity Doughnuts truck in the Whole Foods parking lot on Friday. These doughnuts are to die for! I bought 4 cinnamon and sugar, a blueberry cheesecake, blueberry lemonade, and two chocolate potato chip! That made two for each of us.Thank goodness I can't get to the truck very often!
Since teen daughter is gone until Friday, I thought I would head over to GA to visit my college friend that lives in the country on a huge farm. I am ready for some girl time! I leave early tomorrow and plan to come back on Wednesday afternoon sometime.
Hope you are enjoying your June so far!
