Our hearts are heavy as we had to say goodbye to our little buddy, Tigger, tonight.

Teenage son and I were with him, petting him and telling him how much we loved him when he passed.

It's amazing how much they become like one of the family.

He was my special little buddy who would come and meet me on the sidewalk when I would come home, He would flop onto his back so I could rub his belly!

He fought a good fight, and we sure are going to miss him!

 

Quiet Weekend

Well, I tried to upload a photo of some very pretty flowers that my neighbor brought over before they left for the long weekend, but they kept loading sideways! What's up with that?

I think this was the first Memorial Day Weekend we stayed home in years! 

With the cat coming home from the vet on Friday, I knew we would have to stay home to do some nursing. He was doing so well at the vet's. Was eating and drinking and so when he came home we thought he had turned a corner! Well, not so fast! By Saturday afternoon he wasn't eating and now we are feeding him with a syringe! It baffles me as to why the change, but I feel like he won't be able to go on much longer like this. I know we could probably take him back to the vet and they could start an IV of fluids and probably bring him back, but for how long? And we have spent sooooo much money already, I just can't see spending more if we can't be guaranteed a complete recovery.  Decisions!

Friday was the last day of school. Teen son, who has never worked a day in his almost 18 years, started a summer job today! He called me on his lunch break to let me know that I didn't pack any chips in his lunch and he was starving, and so hot, and felt like he was going to throw up! I just had to laugh! Welcome to the real world baby boy! 

I am so ready for a break! So far no plans yet because everything depends on the health of kitty!

Just 2 More Days

 And school will be out for the summer! Final exams have started and so far everyone is doing really well!

I made chocolate chip cookies and brownies for teen daughter's teachers. She had some really good ones and wanted to give them a little something. 

Our kitty is back at the vet's office at the "hospital". He wouldn't eat over the weekend and has lost more weight! He is on IV fluids and we are hoping to get him strong enough to face surgery to remove the dead tissue from his stomach. I visited yesterday and today and they said he is doing well and has been eating all day.

Last night was book club, We read Little Bee, which I had originally read about 2 1/2 years ago. I really didn't like it. I had a hard time with the character Sarah. If you've read it, what did you think?

Today after daughter was finished with her exams we went out for breakfast and then headed to the DMV for her to take the test for her driver's permit. Unfortunately she didn't pass! But, we can go back and try again tomorrow. She has been doing the practice tests online and feels pretty confident now. I hope! The DMV is one place I don't like spending a lot of time!

Is It Really Friday?

I can't believe that it's Friday already.This week has just been a blur!

Another trip was made to the vet for a recheck. Kitty's stomach wounds are not healing like the vet had hoped. We are still continuing antibiotics and trying to entice him to eat. He has already lost 3 pounds, which doesn't sound like much but it's about 25% of his total weight! 

Since I have been playing nurse to the cat 24/7, the house has fallen into disarray! And wouldn't you know it, I got a text last night around 8:30 requesting a house showing this morning at 10:00! 

Well of course I said yes! And then went into overdrive trying to clean up!

And now I am getting ready for another showing in about 30 minutes. I figured why not? The house was clean! 

Since I missed my weekend away in Hilton Head last weekend, I am looking forward to just a night out with my Pokeno pals on Saturday night! I figure someone else can look after the cat for a few hours!

Final exams start next week for the teens. I will be so glad when school is over! But, then teen son will be a senior next year and man, will that be a crazy whirlwind year!

We Take One Step Forward and Two Steps Back!

I was supposed to go to Hilton Head for a girls weekend but our furry son had a little setback earlier this week. I had to take him back to the vet on Wednesday and they had to flush out his abscess and cut away some of the dead skin around his stomach wounds! Ugh, I couldn't even look! Then he went back all day on Thursday for some IV fluids and then back on Friday to remove the catheter from his arm and a recheck.

So, since I have been the primary caretaker I am home this weekend instead, coaxing him to eat and drink and dispensing his meds twice a day!

He seems to be a little better and is moving around more. 

I will be so glad when he is back to normal!

Totally Exhausted!

Our sweet cat came home from the hospital on Thursday afternoon,

I took him to our new vet on Friday and they kept him for the afternoon to give him fluids since he was a little dehydrated. 

Saturday morning I took him back to the vet to have the catheter removed and to see if he needed more fluid. Of course he needed more fluids, so he stayed until they closed around noon.

He is still recovering. 

He won't eat on his own, I have to feed him by hand! I scoop some of the cat food onto my fingers and he will eat it off of them! And he won't drink out of his water bowl, so we have started putting water into a medicine syringe and squirt it into his mouth!

I feel like I have  newborn and I am too old for that!

We are waiting for the culture of his abscess to come back today to see if the antibiotic he is on is actually working on it.

Each day he seems a little better, but he still has a long way to go! We have put so much money into his treatment and recovery it is almost ridiculous but he is a part of the family, so when do you draw the line?

Saturday we went to a neighbor's house for a cinco de mayo party. It was a lot of fun and it was nice to just be relieved of my nursing duties for a little bit! 

Last Wednesday teenage son got his driver's permit. Finally, he is already 17! He was never really interested in getting it but now that all his friends are driving he decided it was time. Now he is driving me crazy wanting to drive around the neighborhood all the time! We have told him that he will have to take a professional driving course before we will let him drive with us on the main roads!

Looking forward to next weekend when I will be gone to Hilton Head for a girls weekend!

We're In This Heart, Soul and Wallet!

We went to the hospital to visit our kitty last night.

He sniffed my hands and was purring a bunch. Haven't heard him purr since the attack!

He seems to be making a comeback after a blood transfusion and mulitple IVs.

I talked with the vet this morning and she is concerned because he is still so weak. He will sit up but will sort of buckle when he tries to walk around. She suggested another blood transfusion. So we are going to see how that goes. It looks like he will be in the hospital for a few more days.

I may have to get a job after this! ;)
