This past weekend was a bust!
Teen son had to be at work at 6:00am on both Saturday and Sunday! And that means this momma had to get up at 5:15 to make sure he had gotten up! Not fun!
I did make this really good cake. It's supposed to be for breakfast but we have eaten it for dessert! I'll definitely be making it again.
Monday morning husband and I had to go to the attorney's office to talk about updating our wills. Our last ones were done when teen son was a baby and I was pregnant with teen daughter! I wanted to make some changes and so we have all of that in the works now.
I have been working feverishly for a candidate in our  congressional special election that is coming up next Tuesday. I was fortunate to get two tickets to the debate that was held last night. It was my first time going to a political debate and I really enjoyed it. It's not like what I heard from the other candidate was going to change my mind, I just went to be supportive, and so must a lot of other people because when my candidate was introduced the room exploded with shouts and applause. Not so much for the other one! I am excited to see how this ends!
Over the weekend I did get teen son's graduation announcements/invitations ordered from Tiny Prints. I ordered some to invite family members and some to just send announcements to others. They will be here soon and we will be able to get them in the mail. Got a great deal on them too, which always makes me happy!
Why do I feel like it should be Wednesday already?

Is This For Me or For You?

For my birthday, teen son gave me money! I was thrilled that he remembered, but told him that he didn't really need to do that, keep his money. He said "no, the money is so you can go buy a magic bullet." I thought, how sweet. Then he followed up by saying " and then you can make sister and I smoothies." I guess it's the thought that counts!
Last night was book club. We read Girl in Hyacinth Blue. I enjoyed it and it was a quick read. But, getting together with the girls in the club was sort of a downer last night, I found out one is getting a divorce and another was just diagnosed with stage I melanoma! If you haven't been  checked by the dermatologist, get there! I am serious!
Heading out to Middleton Place this afternoon. I am sure we will be quite busy.
Then gathering at a new Thai place for lunch tomorrow with some friends to celebrate two April birthdays. Should be fun!

Be Sure To Read the Fine Print

I always have a little dryness on my face in certain areas, especially in the winter. Nothing that a little moisturizer won't fix.
Well, lately my face has been practically peeling off in sheets! I couldn't figure out what was happening. Until I took a close look at a new foundation I was using.... there in small print it said "heals blemishes" and then I noticed a little paper that was attached to the bottle that had an ingredient list  I saw "Salicylic acid"! I continue reading and see all kinds of warnings about how you should only use a thin amount on the affected areas and be aware of excessive drying that can occur! Wow! That bottle is going in the trash today!

Who Would Have Thought?

I hear so many people talking about the thread count of their sheets. You know, 100% cotton, the higher the better! I have purchased so many sheets trying to find the perfect one.
I used to have some sheets that I just LOVED. They were crisp, not scratchy, and nice and cool when you slipped between them! I actually almost wore them out I used them so much. Husband swore I never changed the sheets because they were always on the bed! I had to keep telling him that I would just take them off and wash them and put them right back on!
Well, it's been years since those were sent to the place all good sheets go to die! I have spent SO MUCH money trying to find the perfect sheet again.
Last week, when I was on one of my purging binges, I found one of the pillow cases that had come with that set. I thought maybe there would be something on the label that would give me a clue as to what the thread count was or something.
Would you believe that the sheets that I coveted were a cotton and polyester blend? No high thread count, no Egyptian cotton, nothing fancy, just good old cotton and polyester!
I ran out to one of the TJ Maxx type stores that I frequent and guess what? They had some and for a fantastic price.... now I just want to stay in bed all day!

Taxes Are Filed!

Just filed our taxes! We get a little bit back, but we owe a little more than our refund. :(
So, I got the guest room to an inhabitable state before the in-laws got here.
This is what it looked like on Friday night:

No artwork on the walls or mirror over the dresser, but there was new bedding and a freshly painted room! I am not expecting company anytime soon, so I have time to put the finishing touches on it.
On Friday night husband and the teens took me out for pizza for my birthday a day early. I appreciated the thought!
Saturday the in-laws arrived mid-morning. We decided to head to our favorite burger joint in town for lunch. I especially like it since I have become a vegetarian and they have a killer grilled cheese! ;)
After lunch we drove them around showing them some of the old houses in town.
Husband and FIL headed out to play a round of golf and I took MIL to Middleton Place since she had never visited before.
There were huge tents set up and many people working to get ready for a wedding and reception there that night.
I took this photo of one of the lambs that was born within the last week:
Can you see him/her behind the mom?
We toured the house Museum and walked around the gardens a bit before heading home.
Sunday husband took his dad to The Masters.
That was our Christmas gift to him this past year. Even though they spent most of the day in the rain, I think he had the time of his life!
Now I am trying to clean up from the weekend and planning the rest of my week.
How was your weekend?

A Different Easter

Easter morning started off gray and rainy. Teen son had to work from 9-2, so I knew he wouldn't be going to Mass with us. So teen daughter, husband and I headed to church after dropping son off at work.
I wish I had had my camera with me because the altar was decorated so beautifully! In years past we had just had lilies used around the altar, but this year it was an assortment of different whites, and pinks and yellows and greens from all sorts of different flowers! It was breathtaking!
I planned our Easter meal to be at 2:00 when son got off work. I made a ham, cheesy potato casserole, fruit salad, roasted asparagus and rolls. I think everyone was happy with the selection. And since I don't eat meat, I filled up on the potatoes, asparagus and fruit!
Yesterday I worked the polls for the run-off for the our congressional delegate. Another long, tiring day! I still feel like I could use some more sleep. Now the actual election will be on May 7th. I had to laugh because those of us who work bring food to share so that we have breakfast and lunch available. Well, we've already planned the food for the general election! I am beginning to think that the food is the most important and the voting is secondary! ;)
