Graduation Weekend is Here!

 Kindergarten September 2000
12th grade September 2012
Graduation is tomorrow at 2:00. I am already getting pissed at some of the family and they aren't even here yet! Earlier in the week, husband's brother called and wanted to know what fun did we have planned for Friday night? Umm, okay, you are 51 years old you're going to have to make your own fun! Husband told him that I had enough to do and to not count me in on any "fun itinerary"! Then I get a text late last night that he has decided that he doesn't want to come until Saturday morning and will probably arrive around 11:00 am. This is after I have already gone to the grocery store to load up on food for Friday night and a brunch on Saturday! There were four other family members that were riding with him. It didn't help when husband tried to defend BIL when I was getting all pissy! So as of this morning he has called back and is reconsidering. maybe they will come tonight after all! At this point if they show up tonight I think I will just hand them the local pizza shop menu and tell them if they are hungry feel free to order! What would a family event be without some drama?!
Wednesday night I took teen daughter and one of her friends to The X-Factor live taping here in Charleston. It was really a lot of fun! I love that Simon Cowell! I always thought that in person he might be a big jerk, but let me tell you, he was the nicest celebrity I have seen! He shook hands with everyone on the aisle as he made his way to the stage and stopped for photos with anyone that wanted one! The crowd went crazy when he came out, not so much for the other judges: Kelly Rowland, Demi Lovato, and Paulina Rubio. There was polite applause and some screaming but not as much as for Simon. There were some extremely talented people who auditioned! I have never watched the show, but will definitely have to tune in this fall!
Gotta run, still have some last minute errands to run and a house to clean!
Happy Memorial Day!

Making gifts for friends (edited)

Teen daughter decided to make some birthday gifts for a couple friends who have birthdays next week. She bought canvas bags and painted some fun things on them! I think they turned out pretty cute!

Is It Saturday Already?

I feel like I am buried under a huge stack of papers, with no end in sight! If it's not some paperwork that has to be filled out for son's college, it's paper work for daughter's trip to France! I am going to be so happy when all of this is done!
We took teen son out for dinner Wednesday night to celebrate his being finished with high school. There was a time a few years back when I really had my doubts! We told him to pick wherever he would like to go. First he picked Hall's Chop House, but then decided that he might not like the menu, so he decided that he wanted to eat at Poogan's Porch. Everything we ordered was actually very good and I think he really enjoyed it. We were stuffed when we left!
Looks like we will have a house full next weekend for graduation! Other than a few last minute things I think I am just about ready!
Tonight is Pokeno with my girlfriends. Can't wait, it's been several months since I have been able to get together with them!
Hope you have a great weekend!

I hope those of you who are mothers had a wonderful Mother's Day. I have always had mixed feelings about that day. When I wanted so desperately to have a baby, Mother's day really got on my nerves! I remember one particular day at the little church I was attending. At some point they asked all the mothers to stand and they presented them all with a rose. I was the ONLY person not standing! I felt so uncomfortable and sad. As I was leaving after the service I had just reached the bottom of the stairs when I heard someone calling my name. It was the minister, who happened to be female. I turned around and she was holding one of the arrangements that had been up at the front of the church. It was beautiful. There must have been about 30 roses in the vase. She handed it to me and said, "your time is coming".
Since I became a mother I have never really cared if we celebrated Mother's day or not. Yesterday husband went to Myrtle Beach and took his mom out for lunch, then went to play a round of golf with his dad. Since teen son had to work, I stayed behind to make sure all were where they needed to be. I received cards from both of my children and teen son went and bought KFC for us for lunch. It was a sweet gesture, though I know KFC happens to be one of HIS favorite things to eat!
So I hope things went the way you wanted yesterday!
Friday night husband and I attended a greek dinner at our clubhouse here in the neighborhood. It was sponsored by the women's club and everyone signed up to bring a greek dish. I made Baklava, which I hadn't made it years, and it was a hit! We played a greek trivia game and our team lost by one point! Darn! It was fun to get out for a bit and not have to leave the neighborhood.
Today was teen son's last day of school! Senior exams start tomorrow and since he exempted all of his he is done! Now I just have to get everything in order for graduation on the 25th!

Lately...

Last Friday daughter and I drove up to Charlotte to spend the night at my sister's house since we had to be in Lenoir NC, for a pre-departure orientation for her time in France, on Saturday morning.
Man the weather was cold! When we got to sister's house I think it was in the 50's!
I hadn't seen sister since Christmas, so we had a great visit. We sipped some wine while we chatted and it was so good!
This is it:

If you like red wine, you will love this! I just came back from the store and I stocked up!
Saturday we drove to the meeting. It was really informative and we were able to meet other teens from the Carolinas that are traveling this fall too. It was kind of funny that one of the other teens at the metting (that was almost 4 1/2 hours away) actually goes to the private school here in our town!
We left the meeting and drove straight to the lake house. One of my friend's daughter graduated from college and they had a celebration dinner there for her. My friend made some amazing shrimp and grits.
We made it back home just in time for me to whip up some Honey Lime Chicken Enchiladas. I think I've linked to the recipe before. They are so good!
Monday was spent taking care of some of the messy parts of my life. Hopefully someone learned a lesson.
Tuesday I worked at the polls for our congressional special election. That was a LONG day.
I spent yesterday trying to get caught up. It didn't happen!
I did get son's graduation announcements in the mail. His last day of classes is on Monday since he is exempting all of his exams. I need to focus on his party we are having here at the house for our family after the ceremony!
Hope you week has been less crazy!

Teenage boys...

UGH! This boy is taking years off his dad's and my life!
On a happy note, teen daughter got her french family yesterday! It's starting to feel real now that we know where she will be and with whom! Four months until she leaves!
Have a great weekend, mine can only get better! :)
