Thus Far...

We went to the lake house on Saturday. It was a good trip. Had thunderstorms Saturday night, but we were able to grill some hamburgers before the weather changed for the worse! Watched The Help, I liked it, but liked the book more!
Monday I took my neighbor, that always feeds the cats for us, to Middleton Place. It was a gorgeous day. We finished our visit with lunch in the Garden Market. I had a fantastic chef's salad! And, it was even better because I got to use my volunteer discount! :)
Got a call from husband right before 6:00, he had hit a pot hole on the way home and blew out his tire. Or so he thought. He called Mercedes Roadside Assistance and they sent out a fellow to help and when he got the tire off the whole entire rim was cracked all the way around! The tire looked perfect, it had lost air because of the crack! When he called the dealership in the morning to get pricing, they told him that the crack was normal. I'm thinking they don't understand what husband is saying, because the crack doesn't look "normal" to me!
Tuesday I had to work my shift at Middleton in the morning. It was a crazy busy day! Lots of people taking advantage of the great weather! After I was done I rushed to the grocery store and wine store to pick up some items for book club that I was hosting that evening!
For book club I made Shrimp Nachos and of course we had lot's of wine!
We read The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It was so interesting, I really enjoyed it!
Today I have had an awful sinus headache. I am wondering if it is because of all the time I have spent outside for the past few days!
Tomorrow is another shift at Middleton. Better get good sleep tonight, I am sure we will be swamped with visitors!

Oops...

Is it bad that I went out shopping today for some things for the new place and then when I got home decided to just keep the new stuff here and switch out with stuff I already had?

Such a Fun, But Exhausting Weekend!

We had a great weekend. Friday was a teacher's workday so the teens were out of school.
We had been planning for awhile to have my SIL come for a visit and she and her boyfriend came on Friday.
We headed out to Middleton Place Plantation and spent several hours touring the house, and walking around the gardens. The azaleas are in bloom and it is really looking pretty.

By the time we were finished it was almost time for dinner. So we headed home and ordered pizzas.
Saturday morning we went to our little town and walked around a bit and then I gave them a tour of the older part of town.
We went back by the house to see if husband wanted to tag along to Charleston, but he managed to get the truck stuck in the yard when he was unloading some mulch, so he stayed behind to work on getting it unstuck!

We had lunch at Eli's Table. It was pretty good.

Then we headed down toward the Battery.
I love walking around downtown and looking at the houses. It is such a shame that even though it is only a 30 minute drive, we hardly ever get down there unless we have company!

Teen daughter wanted to take some photos for her photography class. So I took my camera for her to use. But, I thought I had charged the battery, apparently not! She was not happy, especially when we kept pointing out things that would have made a great photo!
(These photos were from a different trip!
)
We had a great time, but must have walked several miles!
We grilled dinner Saturday night and enjoyed a bottle, or two of wine!
Sunday morning we all got up and went to Mass.
Our visitors left around noon, and I ended up taking a nap in the afternoon while we had a little thunderstorm!
It was a great weekend, but boy am I glad Monday is here!

She's All Ours

The closing went without a hitch.
I need to find a thank you gift for my parents for signing all the paperwork for us!
I just hate that we can't get up there until the end of the month, I am so ready to start decorating and to actually go inside and see what it looks like! I was in and out so fast the day we looked that everything was a blur!

Spring has Sprung!

The weather here was beautiful this weekend!
The azaleas are blooming and make everyone's yard look so pretty.
Saturday morning I was up at 6:30 making breakfast for teen son so he would have full stomach when he took the SAT. Afterwards when I asked him how it was, he said he thought I signed him up for the wrong test because it was pretty easy. Oh, how I hope he did well!
Saturday afternoon I tried a new Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookie recipe. As fast as everyone has been eating them I would say they turned out well!
Sunday, before we headed out for mass, I put a ham in the oven. It smelled delightful when we got home and all I had to do to finish up lunch was make the green beans, pasta salad and 7up biscuits. Everyone ate their fill!
Spring starts the busy season at Middleton Place. This morning I had to run over to attend a house guides meeting since I have never had to deal with capacity tours very often. They showed us how to get a group of 20 in and out of the house in the allotted 30 minutes. My first tour this month is next Tuesday.
My SIL is coming for a visit this weekend. I told her I would take her out to Middleton on Friday afternoon and I think we may head downtown Charleston on Saturday to take in the sites. Teen daughter is going to hang out with us and even though teen son is invited, I am sure he will opt to hang with his friends!
Today is the closing on the "mountain" house! My parents are at the closing for us as I type this! I told mom to call when it is all over. I had spoken with the people we are buying the house from several times on the phone (we bought some of their stuff they had in the house) and they were disappointed that they weren't going to be able to meet us. I told my mom to take our Christmas card from this year and they could put some faces with the names!
Has spring arrived in your neck of the woods?

I Found This Really Funny

This was the headline on a front page story from our small town newspaper.
I found it extremely funny, no one else in my family did. They just rolled their eyes at me!

We Need Just One More Thing...

Now I remember why I hate buying a house!
It should all by done by this time Monday!

Taizé Prayer

I am so glad to see the sun this morning! It started raining early on Saturday and rained all day and night. It wasn't stormy, just cool and rainy, just the way I like it!
Sunday we had another house showing, so we decided to go to the late Mass and go to lunch during the showing.
Last night I attended a Taizé Prayer for Lent at our church. This has been offered several years but I have never made the effort to attend. According to the write-up in the church bulletin: "Taizé-style worship was developed by a Christian ecumenical community in eastern France, and is characterized by simple chants based on the scriptures and periods of silence to create an environment for encountering the mystery of God. This time of quiet, gentle, communal prayer will help to relieve the stress in your life, and allow you to better focus on your Lenten journey."
It was so beautiful. The lights were dimmed and there were candles all over the altar. At one point those in attendance were encouraged to approach the cross that was in front of the altar, light a candle to symbolically release their burdens to the compassionate love of Christ. If they do this again next year, I will definitely attend!
We have another house showing tomorrow morning. I am so ready to sell this house, or not. I just hate the instability!
Happy Monday!

My Week

  • Both teens had dentist appoinments. Of course on different days!
  • Teen daughter had an orthodontist appointment. Which resulted in another appoinment in a few weeks for them to take off three brackets and wires, then she will leave and go to the dentist to have him remove the bonding from where she chipped her teeth from her bicycle accident almost two years ago, then back to orthodontist for the brackets and wires to be replaced! And of course I agreed to a day when I actually am scheduled at Middleton Place! Hopefully someone will switch with me.
  • Husband left me with his car on Wednesday and of course it was on dead empty! I went to fill it up and was trying to get to the passenger side by stepping over the gas hose. My foot caught the hose and I kept going! I fell smack down on the cement! Hit my shoulder on the little raised cement thing that the gas pumps are on! Scraped one knee and both elbows and my knuckles! Thank goodness no one was around! I just knew if there was anyone watching they would have videoed it and posted it on you tube! That night I searched "crazy woman falls at gas pump" just to be sure! ;)
  • Went to book club on Tuesday night. It was a lot of fun. We had read Tina Fey's book Bossypants. I am hosting next month and we are reading The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It sounds interesting.
  • Some girl has been calling our house around midnight and asking for our teen son! She called Wednesday night and then called three times last night! The last time husband got on the phone and let her have it! And son doesn't even know who she is!
  • We are closing on the mountain house on the 12th! We were talking about it the other day and teen son asked what house we were talking about. He stayed at my parent's when we went to look at it and then we really didn't talk much about it when he was around. I guess we forgot to tell him we were buying it!
  • Had someone look at the house today. They were supposed to be here between 11:00 and noon. At noon they still weren't here and I was getting pissed. A few minutes after the scheduling center called and wanted to know if they could still come, they were running behind. I said come on! Fingers crossed!
Have great weekend!
