It's Kind of Sad...

When this is the only photo I took of my weekend with my sisters!
We actually had a great time!
We met at the hotel right around lunchtime. It was my first time staying in a Hampton Inn and will probably be my last! More about that later!
We walked over to Liberty Tavern and had some great salads. I ordered the grilled tuna salad and it was very good. After we ate we decided to walk around and we ended up walking around the block and going to the place across the street from Liberty tavern and sat on the porch talking and drinking beer, thus the above photo! The waitress talked us into getting a bucket of the little green bottles of beer and they were tiny! Not a bad beer, though I am not a really big beer drinker! After we finished the little ones we went with regular sized bottles but since we had been drinking the "min" bottles the normal ones looked HUGE! We were laughing so hard, probably because of all the "mini" bottles we had already consumed, and I just had to get a photo of the "giant" bottle compared to the other.
After a while we noticed that the place was filling up and with some really strange looking people! Mostly guys in cowboy hats! I told my sisters that I brought a bottle of wine and we headed back to the room.
Now, why I don't like the Hampton Inn: When I first arrived I noticed that one of the elevators wasn't working. I am extremely claustrophobic and really don't like to ride on elevators but decided to be a big girl and give it a whirl! No problems, even though the whole time I was trying to keep myself from going into full panic mood! When we came back to go to the room for wine, the three of us got on the one that was working and proceeded to go to the fifth floor. The number five lit up and instead of the door opening the elevator started kind of bouncing and making a squealing noise! I turned white and my eyes became the size of small saucers! My youngest sister looked at me and just started repeating 'it's okay, it's going to be fine", all while I was just trying to keep from having to be peeled off the ceiling! After what seemed like forever, I think it was probably about 15 seconds the door opened. But, before we got off I glanced at the inspection certificate that you see in elevators and what does it say but "pending approval and it is dated December of 2009!!!! I looked at my sisters and told them I would be taking the stairs from then on!
We sat in the room talking and drinking wine until we finally got hungry and ventured out to find something to eat. We ended up eating at the Blue Marlin. Kind of ironic since I live right by the coast and but here I was in a seafood restaurant in the middle of our state! I had the shrimp and grits, which I thought was safe... not really. We closed down the restaurant talking about the worst things we did when we were teenagers! My youngest sister is nine years younger than me so for teen years I was already married and living in another state. So, many of her stories were news to me. And since she is a very successful professional now, it gives me hope with our teen son! ;)
Went back to the hotel and walked up five flights of stairs and retired for the evening.
I have never stayed in a hotel that offers breakfast in the lobby in the morning and I don't ever want to again! I couldn't believe the people that came down in their pj pants and t-shirts and messy hair. YUCK! It was enough to make me lose my appetite! Then there was the guy that filled his cup with orange juice and just stood in everyone's way as he drank it and then refilled it again and again.
After breakfast we checked out and headed to our homes.
It was a great meeting place since it wasn't that far from our homes which made for a quick drive home. I was home by noon and it gave me the rest of the weekend to get ready for the week, which was crazy busy.
Our next book club meeting will be in the summer when we all gather at my parent's home at the beach. It won't be quite the same but we have decided that we are going to get away for a meal and some sister time. And since we will be at the beach and near my house I can recommend some great places for seafood!
Yea! It's Friday and we have dance rehearsal and confirmation meeting to fill our weekend.
Have a great one!

  1. We've usually had good luck with Hampton Inns, but I've started staying at the Holiday Inn Express. They have breakfast, but I've never seen anyone come down in their pj's! YUCK!
